Chunky and Monkey were excited when two "gigantic boxes" showed up at our front door the other day. They had no idea at the time what was inside, but they had a pretty good idea that the mailman had just brought them a brand new toy. As we opened the boxes the boys were thrilled to discover a Grand Walk-In Kitchen and Grill from Step2. Judging from their initial reaction I could tell this was going to be a huge hit. I wish you could have heard them screaming and squealing! It was apparent that I would have no choice but start assembling the kitchen right away.
Product assembly is always a major concern of mine. I don't like to open a toy and find a million parts inside that require multiple tools and a masters in engineering to complete assembly. This is always complicated because Chunky and Monkey love to "help" with assembly and parts get scattered all over the house. For a kitchen that arrived in two very large boxes, I was surprised at the few number of parts needed to assemble the Grand Walk-In Kitchen and Grill. The best part of all was that the only tool required was a screwdriver! Since my cordless drill/screwdriver was dead I had to use a traditional one. Most of the large pieces fit together like a puzzle in factory molded grooves and all you had to do was secure it in place with a screw. Using a traditional screwdriver and carefully reading instructions my total assembly time was around 20-25 minutes. To be honest putting on all the stickers took me just as much time as the actually assembly. In case you didn't already know, I am a perfectionist and wanted every sticker to be perfectly straight. The only things you will need to provide and have ready is 2AA and 4AAA batteries that are not included. These are needed for the grill, stove top and phone that make realistic sounds. Overall I am extremely pleased thus far, and it was extremely easy to assemble.

Chunky and Monkey love how much room they have in their kitchen. I was initially worried that the two of them wouldn't be able to fit in the kitchen together and would fight over whose turn it was to cook or clean. They were easily able to fit inside at the same time and even had extra space to move around from station to station. I was impressed with how all the features are very realistic. All of the appliances, (refrigerator, microwave, oven and grill) have a "stainless steel" finish on them making them similar to what we have in our house. Even the sink has a realistic swivel faucet with a push button to "turn the water on." As if that wasn't already enough there is also a 103 piece accessory set included that comes with various food items, spices, cooking pots, and utensils. Step2 really did think of everything when they produced this kitchen and grill set. In case you are wondering if the Kitchen is sturdy I have seen both boys climb on top of the bar at the same time and it was able to hold 60+ pounds with no problem at all. I do not encourage children to climb on the toys but as you know they probably will anyways.
